Caluya Islands: this small island in Antique called Caluya Island is often overlooked. Many didn’t know that the island is a gem waiting to be uncovered. Going to Caluya Island one must take a plane going to San Jose, Mindoro and then take a boat going to Caluya Islands. You could also take a plane going to Caticlan and then proceed to Libertad Port. The boat ride from Libertad to Antique could take about two to three hours and this can be longer if waves are slightly rough.
You would be surprised how quiet Caluya Islands is, you would even be as well delighted by the warm smiles of the locals.
The island may not offer the luxuries compared to its neighboring islands, it will surely give you the feeling of satisfaction. There is yet no hotel but Caluya Island has a pension house. Also, the office of tourism in Caluya can assist and suggest you a place for your stay, rather, to make your stay more comfortable. Electricity is only available between 8AM-12MN.
Aside from being known for its powdery white sand, Caluya is known for tatus – a coconut crab with the bluish back which thrives in coconut. Its meat is really good and can be cooked in different ways. You may just be surprised of how pricey the crab meat can be. Further, this island is also known for seaweed. Dried seaweed is being transported to Cebu. Fun fact: Caluya is the fifth largest seaweed producer in the country.
The island also offers certain activities. You could go and visit Lusot Lusot Cave and swim. Fact is, you may find the waters too inviting that you will probably do cliff diving. But, you must always keep in mind to be very careful while cliff diving in order to avoid any accidents.
You can do Island Hopping and visit its neighboring island – Sibay and Sibato Islands which are equally as beautiful as Caluya Island. Watching the sunset is one thing you should not miss as this is one of the treat the Island can offer.
