The name Dako Island comes from the Visayan word meaning big, since it is the biggest among the three famous islands in Siargao, Surigao Del Norte. These islands are comparable to the Gilis and Lombok in Indonesia. Dako Island is located in between two smaller islands named; Naked Island—which is literally “naked”, no trees, no houses, and no cottages.
What you will see is only the bareness of the beach, white fine sand and the crystal clear blue water surrounding Dako Island.
Another island is the Guyam Island. Guyam Island is a privately owned tropical paradise. Though it’s private, guests are welcome on the island. It is being taken care of by the family residing on the island who collects an entrance fee from every visitor. Guyam Island is decorated with coconut trees and a few cottages for those who are interested in renting a place to settle in during their visit to the island. It is ideal for snorkeling and other beach activities.
Dako Island is like the “Little Gili Trawagan”. It has a long stretch of white sand beach ornamented by the tropical vibe, perfect for the summer feels. Coconuts, cottages, hammocks, and different nationalities that you will see having the same goal; enjoy the bliss of Dako Island’s divine beauty.
They have a small community, mostly of fishermen. There is a line-up of different cottages located at the western side of the island. All the cottages are affordable.
The eastern side of the island is another perfect site for surfing throughout the Amihan season (southwesterly wind). The waves are great for riding, especially for those waveriders-adrenaline-junkies. According to locals, the beach area also changes every season.
The water that surrounds the island is perfect for fishing, snorkeling, and scuba diving, skim boarding, kayaking, camping, beach bumming, and a lot more beach activities.
