Kenya is an African country located on the Eastern part of the continent. Geographically, the territory is situated on the equator, having an access to the Indian Ocean. The neighbouring countries are Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania. The Republic of Kenya (which is the official name) cover a total area of 581 thousand square kilometres and has a great diversity of terrain. It is a home to a population of 45 million people who have two official languages: English and Kiswahili. Within the population, there is a broad and colourful mix of ethnic groups.
The capital city of Kenya is Nairobi – the largest one in the country, serving also as the economic and cultural hub not only in Kenya, but also in the region.
One of the most popular attractions within the city is the world’s famous Nairobi National Park. Kenya has one of the largest and strongest market based economies in the Central and East Africa focused on the traditional export of coffee and tea and the service branch.
The diversity of ethnic groups was caused by the fact of being on the intersection of important areas of the region. The European and Arabic influence was marked in the modern period with the exploration of the African continent. Great Britain claimed the so called East Africa Protectorate, leading to the Kenya colony in 1920. Independence of the country came after, in 1963.
The climate of the country varies from the hot and humid in the tropical parts near the coastline to a cooler climate around the capital city and snow covered peaks of Mount Kenya.
