An Arab country located on the south-eastern part of Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East – that is Oman, a country with strategical location by the Persian Gulf and an access to the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.
The Sultanate of Oman share borders with United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Yemen (plus also the maritime borders with Pakistan and Iran). The country covers the total area of 309 thousand square kilometres and has a population of more than 4.4 million people. The official language is Arabic and the national religion is Islam.
The capital city of Oman and also the largest city is Muscat.
Muscat is also an important political and economic centre of the country. Mostly thanks to the rich oil reserves, Oman belongs to a high income economies with fast development over last 40 years, today focusing on tourism and international trade of for example dates or fish.
Historically, the territory where the nation is situated has belonged to a powerful empire (the Omani Sultanate) with great influence. That lasted till the 20th century when the United Kingdom took over the power and started influencing the area.
