Batanta  Island is the smallest of the four major islands in the Raja Ampat. Located in the west of Papua province of Indonesia. Although it is the smallest island compared to Weigo, Batanta shaggy mountain and dense forest are huge attractions for nature lovers.

Although the Island is just in the west of the mainland City of Sarong, the villagers has preserved their traditional architecture and their way of living.

Hiking is one of the highlights when you visit the island. There are locals who can guide you while hiking.

The Batanta Island, before Weigo was accessible for birdwatching, used to be the tourist destination if they wanted to experience bird watching.

In the village of Wailebed in the southwest of Batanta, birds such as palm cockatoos and cassowary have their sanctuary. Batanta has some great spots for snorkelling as well.

Batanta Island Diving is worth a try however diving is allowed only within the Island single resort. They are the only ones that have the diving facilities.

The local has a prominent style of cooking. They used stones and leaves for cooking vegetables and fish.

They place the fish and vegetables that is covered by leaves in between stones that has fire, then pack it with some more leaves and steam to cook. This unique style of cooking can be still observed until today.

At night tourist can enjoy watching the locals performed their dance that is a characteristic for a Papuan. They perform during the party although it is not traditional but it has a remarkable trace of their culture.

Homestay is the best accommodation for some travellers as it allows them to interact with the locals. In Batanta you can either choose to rent a home stay or rent the bungalows on the village of Marandanweser.

It is surrounded by a magnificent beach. Sea horse Paradise Resort is a dive resort that is located in Birie and you can stay here too. It is the only resort in Batanta and they offer exclusive experience such as diving and a tour to the rock island.
