Shelly Beach Is Home to a Wonderful Holiday Park that has Beach Access

SHELLY BEACH: QUIET BEACHFRONT FUN

Shelly Beach is a wonderful coastal area just a few minute drive away from the Coromandel Township on the Coromandel Peninsula.

The Coromandel Peninsula is located on the eastern side of the North Island of the country.  Coromandel Township is only 75 kilometres away from the capital city of Auckland.  However, the road between the two cities winds around the Firth of Thames and the Hauraki Gulf coasts, making it actually a 190 kilometre drive.

Shelly Beach

The peninsula was named after the HMS Coromandel, which first arrived into the harbour in 1820.

A long time ago, Coromandel Township was a major port responsible for serving the area’s gold mining and kauri industries.

While the area is no longer a gold mining hub, there are a number of remnants from its gold mining history, including an old gold stamper battery.
